Get your glitter on and take the ride of your life with the hilarious and heartwarming musical, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, based on the Oscar-winning film. Following on from the highly acclaimed production of West Side Story, the multi-award winning St Albans Musical Theatre Company brings this colourful show to the St Albans stage, with book by Stephan Elliot and Allan Scott, complete with a hit parade of dancefloor favourites including “I Will Survive,” “Hot Stuff,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “True Colors,” and “I Love The Nightlife.” That’ll have audiences dancing in the aisles!
PRISCILLA tells the heart-warming and uplifting tale of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus named Priscilla, and set off from Sydney on the adventure of a lifetime, to perform as drag artists at a casino in the heart of the Australian outback. They end up on a journey of self-discovery, finding friendship, acceptance, love and far more than they ever dreamed of. Starring as Tick is Mathew Collyer a fire fighter from Watford. Freddie Marks, whose professional credits include Bugsy Malone, Forty Years On and Oliver, joins the cast as Bernadette. Playing Adam is Daniel Quirke who was last seen on stage with SAMTC as Link Larkin in their sell-out run of Hairspray. Julie Lilley, Fenella Lee and Charlotte Gregory join the cast as the three Divas along for the ride with a cast of over 30 local performers.
The company welcomes back Martyn Knight, who is celebrating 50 years in theatre, as director. “What a great joy and honor it is to be back again working with St Albans Musical Theatre Company with such a great talented group of people. I first directed and choreographed ‘Charlie Girl’ in 1996 since then I have directed several productions for them including ‘Pirates of Penzance’, ‘Calamity Jane’, and ‘Die Fledermaus’ – However I first appeared with the society in the 1970’s as a dancer in ‘Oklahoma!’” He is ably assisted by Andrea Campusano with Musical Director Martin Smith completing the production team.
