About us

Over 50 years of entertainment

After opening in 1968 we have become a significant local land mark and Hertfordshire’s premier entertainment venue!

Situated in the heart of the historic market town St Albans, we offer a busy programme of National Touring Shows, Rock and Pop Concerts, Comedy, Films, Exhibitions and the region’s most popular Christmas Pantomime.

And we’ve continued to entertain Hertfordshire for over 55 years.

Formally known as St Albans City Hall or Civic Hall, the theatre can host over 800 people seated and 1200 standing.

Did you know that under our floor us a roman mosaic dating from the late 2nd to the early 3rd century unearthed in the ancient ruins of Verulamium

In 1991 the theatre closed for refurbishment and reopened as the Alban Arena,  receiving a renovation to it’s box office area to make expand the front of the theatre for the public.

We’ve hosted some of Britain’s best known bands and artists including, The Who, Status Quo, Morecambe and Wise, Dire Straights, The Gorlliaz, Friendly Fires and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
